Are you Scared of Dentist? Discover Painless Dental care. Advanced Sedation dentistry in Bethesda.

Did you know that over 85 million Americans avoid the dentist due to dread? Don’t be one of them! Now you can be in peace and no-pain when visiting the dentist. Make your visits to the dentist enjoyable and relaxing by taking advantage of Sedation Dentistry.

What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation Dentistry is a relaxing, safe and effective way of providing dental treatment in an anxiety-free environment. If you are one of those people that haven’t been to a dentist for years in fear of pain or just want a shorter recovery time, sedation dentistry may be a great option for you. We establish a calm and comfortable setting through the use of sedatives. Both oral sedative drugs such as nitrous oxide or “laughing gas” as well as IV sedation are available. The doctor will help you choose the one that is right for you. You will be in a deeply relaxed state at all times, and you will be responsive.

Is Sedation Dentistry right for me?

Patients who may benefit from sedation include:

individuals fearful of going to the dentist

those with problems gagging or with local anesthesia

young children

the behaviorally-challenged

anyone going through invasive procedures that normally take several visits

those who are afraid or embarrassed about their teeth or hate the noises, smells, and tastes associated with dental care

individuals who want a short recovery time

Benefits of Sedation Dentistry

There are several benefits to sedation dentistry. Since most patients worry about pain during a procedure, many are surprised to find that they feel no discomfort during their treatment and even feel good afterwards. Also, depending on the type of sedation method that is used, patients may have little or no memory of their visit thus alleviating all anxiety of going to the dentist. We make sure to give you just enough sedation as if you were asleep. Often time’s patients state that it felt like the procedure took only a few minutes, when in fact it might have taken several hours.
Although you will not feel groggy after the procedure, we recommend that you have a friend drive you to and from our office.

The intensity/level of bad breath is different and can be increased during the day, as a function of oral dryness, (which may be due to stress or fasting), eating certain/specific foods(such as onions, garlic, certain meat, fish and cheese), obesity, smoking and alcohol consumption. Because the mouth is dry and inactive during the night, the odor is usually worse upon awakening so called (”morning breath”). Bad breath may be transient, often disappearing following eating, brushing one’s teeth, flossing, and rinsing with specialized mouthwash. Bad breath may also be chronic, which is a more serious condition, affecting 25% of the population in varying degrees. It can negatively affect the individual’s personal, social and business relationships, leading to poor self-esteem and increased stress. This condition is usually caused by the metabolic activity of certain types of oral bacteria.
Dr. Yaz can make Bad Breath a thing of the past. Let him show you how

Invisalign® is the invisible way to straighten your teeth without braces.
Invisalign® uses a series of clear removable aligners (pictured to the left) to straighten your teeth without metal wires or brackets.
Invisalign®has been proven effective in clinical research and in orthdontic practices nationwide. In fact, over 70% of all U.S. orthodontists are certified to treat patients with Invisalign®.
How Does Invisalign® Work? You wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week – until they have straightened to the final position your orthodontist or dentist has prescribed. You’ll visit your orthodontist or dentist about once every 6 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned.
Total treatment time averages 9-15 months and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from case to case.

Cosmetic Bonding Procedure- Cosmetic Dentistry in Bethesda MD

Cosmetic bonding is a process in which a composite resin is layered upon the teeth and then sculpted to the desired shape.

When cavities form or stains exist on highly visible teeth, the procedure of choice is composite resin. The advantage of using a composite resin is that it can be used to match almost any tooth color. The material used in bonding is a liquid acrylic in which are suspended glass micro-beads. This gives the composite great strength and wear- resistance.
After the teeth are cleaned, the dentist first etches the tooth (teeth) with a mild acid and then brushes on an adhesive. The composite is then added and bonds with the adhesive. While the composite is in its putty form, the dentist will mold it to the desired contours. The bonding resin is applied in successive layers. Each is layer is then hardened with a harmless high-intensity light. Once the last layer has hardened, the bonded composite is sculpted to its final shape. This composite is extremely strong, enabling you to use the bonded teeth exactly as you would your other teeth.

Bonding is used to reduce spaces between teeth, to lengthen small teeth, to correct the appearance of misshapen teeth, or to conceal discolored teeth. If a tooth is worn or chipped, bonding can repair the tooth and protect it from further damage, while restoring its original appearance. Bonding can often be done in a single office visit. As the tooth surface is left intact, the procedure doesn’t usually require any anesthetic.

Composite bonding is relatively inexpensive and can last several years before it will need to be replaced. The composite bonding material is more susceptible to staining than natural tooth enamel and must be cleaned regularly. In general, composite bonding is a more conservative choice over veneers or crowns.

Today, with a special dental procedure called a root canal therapy you may save that tooth. Inside each tooth is the pulp which provides nutrients and nerves to the tooth, it runs like a thread down through the root. When the pulp is diseased or injured, the pulp tissue dies. If you don’t remove it, your tooth gets infected and you could lose it. After the dentist removes the pulp, the root canal is cleaned and sealed off to protect it. Then your dentist places a crown over the tooth to help make it stronger.

Most of the time, a root canal is a relatively simple procedure with little or no discomfort involving one to three visits. Best of all, it can save your tooth and your smile!

Denture wearers require regular check ups and maintenance to ensure their health, comfort, and appearance.

Dentures will seem awkward at first. When learning to eat with false teeth, select soft non-sticky food, cut food into small pieces, and chew slowly using both sides of the mouth. Dentures may make your mouth less sensitive to hot foods and liquids, and lower your ability to detect harmful objects such as bones. If problems in eating, talking, or simply wearing dentures continue after the first few weeks, see your dentist about making adjustments. In time, dentures need to be replaced or readjusted because of changes that occur in tissues of your mouth. Do not try to repair dentures at home since this may damage the dentures which in turn may further hurt your mouth.

Keep them clean and free from food that can cause stains, bad breath, and gum irritation. Once a day, brush all surfaces of the dentures with a denture-care product. Remove your dentures from your mouth and place them in water or a denture-cleansing liquid while you sleep. It is also helpful to rinse your mouth with a warm salt-water solution in the morning, after meals, and at bedtime. Partial dentures should be cared for in the same way as full dentures. Because bacteria tend to collect under the clasps of partial dentures, it is especially important to clean this area.

Gum Disease Treatment in Bethesda MD. Red Swollen Bleeding Gums- Gingivitis and Periodontitis Cure.

Are You at Risk?

By age 35, three out of four adults develop some form of gum disease. Gum disease can occur at any age, but recent studies indicate a greater risk after age 35. This insidious disease is painless and if untreated will destroy the gums and bone surrounding your teeth and may eventually lead to tooth loss.

Making sure that you have regular dental check-up’s and cleanings can help you prevent Gum Disease. Even if you have not taken care of your overall dental health, Dr.Yaz and his team can help you save your gums from further damage.

Healthy gums and teeth

How can you avoid gum disease and its unpleasant consequences? The answer is simple. Exercise good judgment — brush properly and floss every day. Also, see your dentist for regular cleanings. If you have neglected to do this, start today with a visit to your dentist. If periodontal disease is treated in the early stages, many times the damage can be reversed.

Gingivitis

There are two stages of gum disease, gingivitis and periodontitis. The first, gingivitis, is an inflammation of the gums caused by bacteria in plaque. The gums become red, swollen and bleed upon brushing. Normal bacteria in the mouth forms a thin film of plaque continuously on tooth surfaces. It’s that sticky feeling on your teeth when you wake up in the morning. If plaque is not removed every day, it eventually hardens into calculus (tartar). Once calculus forms it can only be removed by your dentist or hygienist with special instruments. Gingivitis is curable with treatment from your dentist, followed by proper brushing and flossing at home. The advanced cordless toothbrushes and other oral healthcare products recommended by your dentist will help you prevent plaque build up and maintain healthy gums and teeth.

Moderate Periodontitis

If not corrected, gingivitis can progress into periodontitis. Periodontitis is a low grade infection of the gums. At this stage, even a high quality tooth brush may not control the disease because of the amount of calculus accumulated around the teeth. Bacteria in the calculus produces waste products which create toxins and volatile sulfur compounds. Toxins destroy the bone and gums around the teeth leading to the development of a periodontal pocket. A pocket is an abnormal deepening of the natural crevice or space between the teeth and gums. These spaces or crevices in healthy gums are normally 1 to 3mm deep. Periodontal pockets are a perfect environment for infection and if left untreated will painlessly progress deeper and deeper. If the pocket progresses beyond the normal depth of 3mm and reaches a depth of 5mm it is known as moderate periodontal disease. The volatile sulfur compounds produced by the bacteria are the leading cause of bad breath.

Even teeth that look healthy can be hiding pockets where bone is being destroyed. To evaluate for hidden gum disease your dentist will recommend x-rays and periodontal probing. The periodontal probe is a special instrument for measuring the pocket depth around each tooth. Periodontal disease is rarely confined to one tooth. It usually involves several teeth and may effect all of them. If your pockets are 5mm or less your dentist may suggest non surgical treatment involving special scaling of your teeth over several visits. At completion of this treatment, the dentist will re-probe your gums to evaluate the results. If the pockets decrease to a depth of 1-3mm, the periodontitis may be under control.

Advanced Periodontitis

If there is no improvement or if your original pockets are in excess of 6mm (advanced periodontitis) Dr. Yaz may recommend surgery. The surgical procedure is performed to remove diseased tissue and allow the dentist to thoroughly clean the tooth structure. This makes it more difficult for plaque and calculus to accumulate. If the disease has caused a defect in the bone, your dentist may reshape the area or perform a bone graft procedure. The gums are sutured into place around the teeth, usually at a lower level than before the procedure in order to eliminate the pockets. Now you can keep the area free of plaque with daily brushing and flossing.

If periodontitis is not treated it will slowly and painlessly destroy the bone which supports the teeth. Untreated, the disease will eventually cause tooth loss. But it doesn’t have to be that way! Early detection of gum disease, good professional care, and proper oral hygiene with professional and high quality oral health care products will guarantee a lifetime of healthy teeth and a great smile.
